Further Reading on AI Image Generation
Articles and examples that I used to prepare for moderating ASMP's Photography in the Age of AI panel on March 14, 2023
Real World Use of AI Image Generation
Ad agency. Ogilvy Paris’ Nestle Ad, 2022. Nice early usage of DALL-E 2’s outpainting.
Magazine. First AI-generated cover for Cosmopolitan, 2022. Linked-In write-up and video by Karen X. Cheng, who created the cover. Cosmopolitan’s own write up on the AI-cover. Read Karen’s Linked In post first. If you’re interested in video, follow Karen on Linked-In. She produces lots of good content.
Non-profit. How Furniture Bank Used AI to generate images for their “photo” campaign and saved $30,000, 2022.
Concept Artist. Circle of Life animation by Andrei Riabovitchev, 2022. Animation done using Deforum Stable Diffusion.

Generative AI and Video
We didn’t get to get into video on the panel due to time (though we added some video references to this in post in the zoom recording), but some really exciting stuff here.
AI that simplifies motion capture for CGI from Wonder Dynamics. In private beta. Write-up by TechCrunch.
Text to video, “a multi-modal AI system that can generate novel videos with text, images, or video clips.” In private beta. Runwayml.
Ethics and IP Rights
Free access to panel videos from the AI/ML Conference (March 10-11, 2023). Lots of good panel discussions on ethics and IP rights.
My Breakdown of the AI Image Generators
(updated to include Adobe’s Firefly and Microsoft’s Bing Creator, which released after the ASMP panel was held)
The diagrams here are useful because even though everyone talks about Stable Diffusion; if you want to actually try it out, you don’t go to stablediffusion.com. It’s a large tangle of different URLS for different user-interfaces built on-top of stable diffusion. Same with DALL-E 2. If you want to try DALL-E 2, there is no DALL-E2.com; it’s labs.openai.com.
